Arsenal Premier League title race twist as manager leaves club in sudden decision
One of Arsenal's upcoming Premier League opponents have decided to sack their manager with a statement released and decision explained
View 2 ImagesMikel Arteta's side are scheduled to host the Lancashire outfit on Monday, May 18, as the Gunners look to continue their bid for a first top-flight title in 22 years.
But the Clarets won't have a permanent manager in the dugout for that game, as a decision has been made to axe ex-Tottenham midfielder Parker following the club's relegation to the Championship.
A statement from Burnley on Thursday morning confirmed that Parker has "left his position as head coach by mutual consent". The club added that, after Parker and the board held discussions earlier this week, it was agreed that he would depart Turf Moor after almost two years in charge.
Speaking after the exit from Burnley was announced, Parker said: "It has been an immense privilege to lead this great club over the past two years. I have enjoyed every moment of our journey together, but feel that now is the right time for both parties to move in a different direction.
"I reflect back with great pride on what we achieved during my time at the club, especially our unforgettable promotion season in 2024/25, and it was a true honour to lead this team into the Premier League.
"I would like to thank Alan and the ownership group for their support during my time at the club. My thanks also go to the fantastic and tireless staff behind the scenes and, most importantly, to the players, who have given me everything since the first day I arrived.
"Finally, thank you to the Burnley fans. I wish you all and this great club nothing but the very best for the future."

The Gunners, meanwhile, have at least five more matches to go this season. They have four remaining in the Premier League, starting with Saturday's visit of Fulham, before welcoming Atletico Madrid in a mouthwatering Champions League semi-final second leg next Tuesday.
After that, Arteta's men travel to West Ham before hosting Burnley and making the short trip to Crystal Palace on the final day of the league season. Depending on the result of the second leg against Atletico, the Gunners could then have a Champions League final at the end of May.
Arsenal are three points clear at the top of the Premier League table, though they have played a game more than second-place Manchester City. As for the Champions League, the Gunners are level going into the semi-final second leg following a 1-1 draw at Atletico on Wednesday night.
