Eberechi Eze injury timeframe blow as number of Arsenal games he'll miss becomes clearer

Eberechi Eze picked up a calf injury during the Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen, forcing him to withdraw from the England squad for the current international break.

Eze missed the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City due to a calf injury he picked up in the midweek Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen. He has since pulled out of international duty with England.

As reported by BBC Sport, there are initial fears that Eze could miss between four and six weeks due to the injury. That would come as a big blow to Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

football.london understands that there are not yet any set timeframes for the injury, with a second scan due to take place this week. The midfielder has had an initial scan, but a second one is needed to provide finer detail on the injury and a recovery timeframe.

Presuming he misses six weeks, the attacking midfielder could miss some big games across three competitions. Should Arsenal get through to the semi-finals of both the FA Cup and Champions League, Eze could be on the sidelines for as many as nine fixtures in all competitions.

The games he could possibly miss are:

Vs Southampton (A) – FA Cup quarter-final – Sat 4 April

Vs Sporting CP (A) – Champions League quarter-final 1st leg – Tues 7 April

Vs Bournemouth (H) – Premier League – Sat 11 April

Vs Sporting CP (H) – Champions League quarter-final 2nd leg – Weds 15 April

Vs Man City (A) – Premier League – Sun 19 April

There is also a possibility that he could miss the Premier League clash against Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium, which would have to be re-arranged should Arsenal make it to the FA Cup semi-final.

A six-week timeframe means that there is a possibility that the England international could make it back in time for a possible Champions League semi-final second leg. Eze could also possibly make a return for the final three Premier League matches of the season against West Ham (A), Burnley (H) and Crystal Palace (A).
