Anthony Hopkins teases new film in ‘golden land’ of Dylan ThomasOscar-winning actor Sir Anthony Hopkins has shared a video of himself reciting poetry from the "green and golden land" of Wales as he returns home for his latest project.

Alongside the sound of birds, the Port Talbot-born actor recited lines from the first and second verses of Fern Hill by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas while on a visit back to his homeland.

The poem, first published in 1945, explores the passage of time and is based on Thomas's childhood memories on his aunt's farm.

The video could be seen as a reference to 88-year-old Sir Anthony's latest project, as he is set to start shooting a film based on a short story by Thomas based in the Welsh countryside.

Sharing the video with his social media followers, Sir Anthony said: "Sunday greetings from Wales, the green and golden land of Dylan Thomas."

He took inspiration from Thomas for the caption, with "green and golden" also featured in the poem to describe the speaker's happiness at being surrounded by nature.

The two-time Oscar winner’s upcoming film, A Visit To Grandpa’s, follows a young boy who is sent to spend a summer with his eccentric grandfather on a Welsh farm, surprised by the adventures he finds.

Speaking to Deadline about the project, Sir Anthony said: "This is a powerful and profoundly beautiful story, one that allows me to return to my Welsh roots while exploring the remarkable vision and prose of Dylan Thomas."

The film's director DJ Caruso called it "one of the great honours of my directorial life" to bring Thomas' story to life alongside Sir Anthony.

The project, which began production in Wales this month, also features Doctor Who's Aneurin Barnard and fellow Welsh actress Aimee-Ffion Edwards.
