Greens announce Makerfield by-election candidate
Wakefield, a councillor on Manchester City Council, was chosen after the Greens' first candidate, Chris Kennedy, withdrew from the race.
The poll, which will take place on 18 June, comes after Labour MP Josh Simons announced he was standing down.
Wakefield said it was "vital in a democracy that voters are given a choice of who they want to vote for".
The other confirmed candidates in the Makerfield by-election are:
- Jake Austin, Liberal Democrats
- Andy Burnham, Labour Party
- Dan Clarke, Libertarian Party
- Alan "Howlin" Laud Hope, The Official Monster Raving Loony Party
- Robert Kenyon, Reform UK
- Rebecca Shepherd, Restore Britain
- Peter Ward, Rejoin EU
- Michael Winstanley, Conservative Party
